尼日尔共和国，通称尼日尔，是西非内陆国家之一，因尼日尔河而得名，首都尼亚美。东临查德，南界奈及利亚、贝南，西部与布基纳法索和马利毗邻，北部与阿尔及利亚接壤，东北与利比亚交界。边境总长5500公里。面积126.76万平方公里，是西非最大的国家。其土地面积有80%位于撒哈拉沙漠。人口约2200万，其中大多数聚居在该国的最南部和西部。尼日尔的首都和最大城市为尼亚美，位于尼日尔西南角

The Republic of Niger, commonly known as Niger, is one of the landlocked countries of West Africa. It takes its name from the Niger River and has its capital, Niamey. It borders Chad to the east, Nigeria and Benin to the south, Burkina Faso and Mali to the west, Algeria to the north, and Libya to the northeast. The border is 5,500 kilometers long. With an area of 1,267,600 square kilometers, it is the largest country in West Africa. 80% of its land area lies in the Sahara Desert. The population is about 22 million, most of them clustered in the far south and west of the country. Niamey, the capital and largest city of Niger, is located in the southwest corner of the country.

Agriculture is the basic economic sector, animal husbandry and uranium mining, gold mining are the main economic pillar industries.

Livestock is second only to uranium mining in export trade, accounting for 40 per cent of GDP and 50 per cent of foreign exchange earnings. Niger, where uranium was discovered in the 1950s, is also an exporter of uranium. Proven reserves are 210,000 tons, accounting for 11% of the world's total reserves, ranking fifth in the world. In 1992, Niger became the world's fourth largest producer of uranium after Canada, Australia and the United States. In addition, Niger's gold mining industry has grown rapidly in recent years. The main gold-producing areas are Samira and Libiri. And Niger has relatively rich phosphate, reserves of 1.25 billion tons, ranked fourth in the world. Niger's coal and oil resources are also important.
