Chinese freestyle skiing superstar and Olympic gold medalist Gu Ailing announced on Saturday via Sina Weibo that she had been involved in a serious training accident in New Zealand.
"After months of recovery, I finally got back on snow here in New Zealand, and the past few days of training had gone really well," Gu wrote. "Unfortunately, yesterday a very scary accident occurred due to human error. Early this morning, we flew to Christchurch, New Zealand, for medical imaging. I hope to return to snow soon, but I'm still waiting for final confirmation from my medical team."
Gu expressed gratitude to her supporters but also urged fans to respect her concentration during training. She noted that interruptions can be dangerous, and asked people not to take photos or videos while she is practicing. Instead, she said she would be happy to meet fans after the park closes in the late afternoon.
